Grade:    2

Age :    7

Gender:   Male

This boy hails from a very poor family having four children with only a mother to look after them. His father was an alcoholic and after years of heavy drinking, died of jaundice leaving behind his wife and four young children.

Compelled by the circumstances his mother works as a road laborer to support her children. However, after seeing the pathetic condition of the family Dorjee Khandu, along with his sister named Tseten Yangkey aged 6 were brought to Manjushree Orphanage for upbringings. The other two children still live with their mother in a labour camp, but her mother keeps on moving from one place to another as she works as a road laborer. She does not have a permanent residence.

Now Dorjee Khandu is growing up rapidly and he shows immense appetite for learning new things. Despite being in grade II, he harbors the aim of becoming a teacher. He is so good in his studies that this year he ahs been double promoted from kindergarten to grade II. He ahs formed a habit of securing first position in his class. Name:     Lobsang Tashi

Grade:      1

Age:       5

Gender:       Male

Lobsang is the youngest among the four siblings of his poor parents. After the death of his mother in a fire accident, his father had taken the custodianship of the four children.  But a year ago, his father died due to an illness leaving behind these children- two boys and two girls.

As his eldest sister is working as a road laborer, she could not take the responsibility of looking after three children and brought one of the boys to Manjushree for admission. After looking at the condition of the child, I admitted the young boy into Manjushree.

Now Lobsang Tashi is fine and doing his studies pretty well.  He wants to become a footballer and likes to play football very much.

Name:         Nima Tsering         (Destitute)

Grade:         Nursery

Age:            5

Gender:       Male

This young boy was admitted into Manjushree in 2007 in the wake of the fact that his parents got divorced and went their own way. His parents have two children excluding him and his twin brother. His parents after divorce have taken the custody of one child each and Nima Tsering and his twin brother are left at the mercy of his grandmother who is too old to look after him. Neither of the parents wants to take the custody of the boys as they are so poor and cannot afford to look after more than a child.  Nima’s grandmother requested me to keep one boy in Manjushree. Seeing the weak financial as well as physical condition of the grandmother, I admitted the boy for upbringing and education. In this way he has become part of Manjushree.

When he came here he was so weak and suffered from malnutrition. After six month of stay here in Manjushree Nima has completely become normal and now he is as healthy as a healthy can be.

Name:          Yangchin Lhamu

Grade:          Nursery

Age :            7

Gender:        Female

This girl was orphaned at the age of five. Her father died when she was just a small baby and she lost her mother to an illness two years ago. After the death of her mother the girl stayed with her brother who is married and has his own children to look after.

Yangchin has one elder brother and an elder sister; both of them are married. She is the youngest in the family.

His brother, having his own children and out of weak financial condition, expressed his inability to look after the girl. He requested Lama Thupten Phuntsok, Founder of Manjushree Vidyapith Orphanage to take the girl into the orphanage. Lama Thupten after understating the condition of her brother took the girl into the orphanage for upbringing and education.

Now she is a very healthy girl with a beautiful smile. She doesn’t talk much but it does not mean that she is weak in her studies. Her less talking nature is very well compensated by her beautiful and continous smile. She is very good in her studies.

She likes to play skipping. She wants to become a teacher.
