In 1959 His Holiness the Dalai Lama fled from Tibet into exile in India. Thousands of Tibetans have since followed. Facing systematic persecution in Tibet, they continue to flee to this day.

Now, over 50 years after the first refugees left Tibet for India, great poverty exists in most Tibetan Refugee Settlements. Tibetans have difficulty earning a living in their already poverty stricken host country. The first refugees are now old and have to rely on their children and other family members - who have enormous problems supporting even themselves. 

The problems for Tibetan Refugees in India continue, and are growing.

Crucial to the cultural and spiritual survival of the Tibetan culture is the training of the next generation of Tibetans.  TLC proposes to help this situation by funding projects to improve the education and health care of Tibetan refugee children.

Funded Projects

TLC has funded several projects at the Rabgayling Tibetan Refugee Settlement in South India.  Among the projects was a solar hot water system and an electric generator for the hospital, a playground for the preschool and medical supplies for the hospital. 

TLC has also funded installation of a solar hot water system at Manjushree Vidyapith Orphanage which is located in Northeast India in the foothills of the Himalayas. 

Current Projects

TLC is currently funding the building of a kitchen/dining hall/study hall/cultural center at Manjushree Vidyapith Orphanage located in Tawang, India.

Raising Funds

To raise funds for these projects the monks from Gyudmed Monastery created Sand Mandalas, presented dharma talks, guided meditations, prayer ceremonies, art classes and sold Tibetan handicrafts during tours in the United States in 2002 and 2003 and in Russia in 2004.
